About Steve Morey
A narrative biography....
Design Services
Steve's building career started small, literally, by doing consulting work for major, national architectural firms and developers. Most of this work was constructing highly detailed, perfectly scaled architectural models for major national & international commercial projects.
He was cofounder of MSI Design Services in Dallas, designers and builders of 3-D marketing & display solutions for architects and developers. Notable among his client list were such architects as Philip Johnson of New York, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill of Chicago and developer Gerald Hines of Houston. Interestingly, many of these models cost as much as a custom home did at that time.
The Art Years
When we say that our homes have the touch of an artist, we are not speaking metaphorically. Steve Morey dedicated his early years, 12 to be exact, to the serious, successful study of art and architecture before starting his custom home building business. It was this immersion in the design arts that ultimately led him to the building business, feeling that there was a market for more thoughtful, creative homes.
As the son of an architect, Steve's interest in architecture, building and art began early in life. This interest led to his exploration of studio art, industrial design and the history of art & architecture at various universities across the country. He holds a BFA degree from The University of North Texas & a MFA degree from The University of Utah and was accepted to the exclusive Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. A prolific artist, he quickly moved to the top of the field. His work received numerous awards, both regionally and nationally and was exhibited extensively in galleries & museums throughout the country.

Teaching Design
Steve taught design, sculpture and drawing at the University of Iowa, the University of Utah and served as Assistant Professor at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, one of the top design institutes in America. Steve was head of the 3-D Design Department at Tyler where all students were required to take his Foundation Design course. Additionally, he taught Advanced Design Structures.
The Dallas Arboretum
Steve's interest in landscape design & respect for sensitive site development went hand in hand with his tenure at the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden. In addition to service on the Board of Directors, he worked on the Architecture & Construction Committee for 8 years. This important committee guides the master planning as well as design, construction & maintenance of all gardens and capital improvements for the 66 acre campus. Under the watch of the A&C Committee the recently completed "A Woman's Garden", the restoration of the historic DeGoyler & Camp houses, and the new Trammel Crow Visitor & Education Pavilion were conceived and developed.
The Fun Stuff....
If anyone happens to care, Steve's loves outside the glorious world of designing & building homes include listening to music (primarily classical & jazz), snow skiing "off piste", and roadracing motorcycles.
Steve's racing team won the 2001 CMRA Middleweight Superbike Championship it's first full year in competition and successfully defended their season championships in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 & 2007. They have been ranked as high as CMRA #2 team Overall.
Individually, Steve won the 2002 CMRA Unlimited SuperSport Expert & Formula 40 Expert Championships. Here is a shot of Steve building velocity, not homes :).
